This calculator gives a simplified estimate of individual income tax for AY 2026-27 under the old and new tax regimes. It applies the standard deduction, the published slab rates and the section 87A rebate limits included in the calculator.
How to use the Income Tax Calculator
- Enter annual gross income.
- Enter eligible deductions that apply to your selected regime.
- Select the old or new tax regime.
- Review taxable income, tax before cess and the estimated final amount.
AY 2026-27 method
The new-regime slabs are 0% up to ₹4 lakh, then 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% and 30% across the published bands. The old-regime slabs for an individual below 60 use ₹2.5 lakh, ₹5 lakh and ₹10 lakh thresholds with 5%, 20% and 30% rates.
The calculator also applies a ₹75,000 standard deduction for the new regime and ₹50,000 for the old regime, plus a simplified 87A rebate treatment within the published limits.
Example
If annual gross salary is ₹15 lakh and no other deductions are entered, the calculator first applies the standard deduction and then applies the selected regime's slab rates. The displayed result is an estimate, not an ITR computation.
Important considerations
- AY 2026-27 rules are used in this version.
- Special-rate income, capital gains, surcharge, marginal relief and many case-specific deductions are outside this simplified calculator.
- Tax liability can depend on residential status, age, income type, exemptions and other facts.
Limitations
Use the Income Tax Department's official estimator or ITR filing workflow for a complete calculation. This tool is intended for planning and comparison, not tax filing.
